Should the Nortel Downfall videos have been removed?

Update: The videos have been restored based on the overwhelming response received. Thank you for your feedback.

Based on feedback I thought the best way was to take a poll to get an idea of what people thought of the videos. Please take some time to provide your vote.

  2. A great shame that you have felt it necessary to take these down, and another punch in the face for morale here.

I hope that you can reinstate them here, and if not, that they spring up all over the internet.

If there are to be no more videos from you, then I hope that others will pick up where you left off…

    Best wishes, Steve

  3. Oh Please! These videos were hilarious! And isn’t the first time that Movie has been used for comedy purposes. I too hope someone picks up where you left off… Everyone knows that the Nortel Executives care only about themselves (i.e. the recent approval of 22 million in bonuses so the Executives will have incentive to stay). As a 17 year employee who was let go 30 days before the bankruptcy and then had the severance that my family depended on ripped out from under us in spite of a signed agreement (they knew they were declaring bankruptcy when they had me sign it), I feel no sympathy for the Nortel executives that ran that once great company into the ground! I care about my co-workers that are still there and trying to get out and I’ll always care about the Nortel that provided for my family for all those years… But the executives being parodied in your videos, no way, they deserve some backlash while they laugh all the way to the bank!

  4. Laughing at the absurdity of it all is a must. Maybe for those of faint heart you can create an equal amount of videos from High School Musical or syndications of the Cosby’s but only the ones where everyone is happy and bliss…Oh wait, that would be all of them. Maybe this way those complaining about the videos would not have the aneurysms they seem to be having over this all.

The videos allowed Nortel employees to laugh and relate to a lot that has been going on. Terms, practices and personalities we all know applied to an obviously mismatched video is the whole purpose of such cathartic humor!

  6. Hey DJ

While my story served as a good framework for imaging the stupidity going around Nortel now a days, I’m sure your fan would appreciate a change in setting.

May I humbly suggest “the good, the bad and the ugly”, “Mars attack”, “the Rocky horror picture show”, “the sting”, “how the grinch stole xmass”, “Ghostbusters”, “Enters the dragon”, etc. as possible fertile grounds to expand and exploit your talent ?

  7. Thank you DJ for reinstating these videos. My co-workers and I appreciate your sense of humor and really enjoy watching the clips which I personally think are excellent. They do nothing but lift our smiles and spirits in these troubled times.

Message to Nortel executives reading this: Please don’t try to suppress what DJ is doing as it will only backfire. You have only yourselves to blame for the sh*t we are currently swimming around in.

  8. Hey DJ,

Let’s put the copyright infringement to rest. I bought the DVD for myself and as a gift because I saw it on your site. I’d never even heard of it, before. You have given this movie a ton of exposure they wouldn’t have received otherwise.

I love the “Nortel Downfall” videos. They make me laugh and I have shared them with family, friends and people facing layoffs at other companies. Every response has been positive – they love them too.

A friend told me that he could tell who had opened the e-mail with the links at his work because he could hear the laughter move through his office.

No matter what we are facing – laughter always makes it more bearable.

DJ – the talents of you and your merry band of cohorts are wasted at Nortel.

I appreciate that you approach your blog as a democracy and seriously consider the feedback you receive. We need some integrity in our work lives, and you and our own principles and ethics provide it.

The Downfall videos and your blog are amazing. They have done more good than you will ever know.

    Thank you.

  10. Thanks for putting back the videos. John Murawski commented that the videos make Z and his leadership team look like a Tyranny of dunces. There is a bit of truth in every joke.

    Keep up the good work.

  12. Way to Go DJ, how about sharing one with Hackney slapping someone and Mike Z gets Nortel attorneys to defend him and goes to Anger Mgmt class then gets promoted……

  13. I’m glad you kept them. They are funny as well as sadly truthful about our “Dear” Leaderz and us dumb lackeys who have to put up with their insanity.

Makes me seriously regret any of the respect I once had for the management at GE.
